Adaptation to the GDPR: what changes<\/h1>\n

With the publication in the Official Journal of the European Union, the new EU Regulation 2016\/679<\/strong><\/a> on data protection, better known as Gdpr – General Data Protection Regulation, has become a law in all respects.<\/p>\n

The 99 articles that make up the GDPR<\/strong>entered into force on May 24, 2016 and the new regulatory text will be definitively applied as of May 25th, 2018<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The innovations introduced in terms of protecting people’s rights are significant. The discipline will be the same for all Member States, with greater accountability for businesses and at the same time significant simplifications on compliance.<\/p>\n

What to do to adapt to the new GDPR<\/h2>\n

To comply with the GDPR<\/strong>it is necessary for the company to change its approach towards managing its customers’ data<\/strong>, adopting the “principle of accountability”. In particular, the data controller<\/strong> must always be able to demonstrate that he has applied all the protection measures established by law.<\/p>\n

Who will carry out the checks<\/h2>\n

In Italy, the Privacy Guarantor<\/strong> will be responsible for the verifications at the companies. Furthermore, the supervisory authorities of the various Member States of the European Union will collaborate in joint actions.<\/p>\n

The penalties provided<\/h2>\n

What is the risk if the adjustment to the GDPR<\/strong>does not take place within the established time frame? The control bodies can apply penalties that can reach up to 4% of the company’s turnover.<\/p>\n
